Municipal workers are seeking a 15% across the board wage increase.
The SA Municipal Workers Union says it has submitted its consolidated demands for the 2012/13 financial year to the SA Local Government Association.
Samwu says this will now start a process of negotiations that will hopefully culminate in an agreement covering 230,000 municipal workers country-wide.
The union is also seeking a minimum wage in the local government sector of R6,000.
Samwu is also demanding that all vacant posts on all Municipal Council approved organograms be filled on a permanent and full time basis and that the salary and wage collective agreement be for the current financial year only.
