Mpumalanga serial killer gets life behind bars

File

The Mpumalanga High Court has sentenced serial killer, 28-year-old Julius Mndawe, to five life terms for killing five women and burying them in his yard.

The National Prosecuting Authority Regional spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, said the murders were committed between January 2018 and May 2019, and all victims were reported missing by their families.

She said Mndawe, who worked at a lodge in the Kruger National Park, was arrested in July 2019, after he was found in the possession of a cell phone of one of his victims.

“He confessed to the police by pointing out the graves where he buried the victims. In court, he pleaded guilty and alleged that he punched all the victims after he had a heated argument with all of them,” Nyuswa said.

She said during court proceedings the court heard that post-mortem reports had revealed that there was a certain pattern in how the victims were killed.

The National Prosecuting Authority welcomed Thursday's sentence. “What is more pleasing is to see family members expressing joy and satisfaction with the sentence,” said the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Sonja Ntuli.
