A policeman from Mpumalanga appeared in court on Monday on two counts of murder related to a shooting in Ogies last September.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate said 38-year-old Constable Checha Makau, also faces three counts of attempted murder.
Spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping said Makau allegedly shot at people sitting in a car in a street near his home in the town on 30 September, 2023.
He said 24-year-old Dineo Kekane and 24-year-old Ricardo Phenganane died from gunshot wounds.
"Mbali Magakwe and Ivans Lekala, both 24, and Goodwill Mdluli suffered serious injuries, but survived," Shuping said.
He said the case was postponed to 4 March for a formal bail application.
