Mozambican nationals jailed for life for farm murders

Two Mozambican nationals were jailed for life for a brutal double farm murder on Mothers’ Day in 2018.

Julius Concalves and Jossias Nhalungo, were sentenced in the North Gauteng High Court on Friday for the murders of 78-year-old Fanie Engelbrecht and his 74-year-old wife Colleen.

Judge David Makoba also sentenced them to an additional 25 years each on charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances and for the possession of illegal firearms.

The pair were convicted in February but sentencing was postponed because of the Covid19 lockdown.

The organisation Afriforum said it welcomed the sentences imposed on the two.

“We are relieved about the sentence but the grief will be with the family for a long time to come. Notwithstanding the sentence we will continue supporting the family,” said Afriforum’s trauma support officer, Magda Coetzee.
