Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga is bemoaning a media report that she knew about the looming Limpopo textbook saga last year.
Her spokeswoman Hope Mokgatlhe said in a statement that the article was misleading and creates the impression that the Minister has the authority to procure on behalf of a provincial department of education.
She said even if Motshekga had been aware of the delivery problems, she did not have the authority to "effect procurement" due to the provisions in the SA Schools Act and the Public Finance
Management Act.
Claims that Motshekga was irresponsible were "fuelled by faceless" people with agendas, Mokgatlhe said.
