A mother and child, who were crossing a road, were killed in an alleged hit-an-run incident outside Potchefstroom on Tuesday night.
ER24's Werner Vermaak said the accident occurred on the Viljoenskroon Road.
He says both the mother and child had sustained extensive fatal injuries, and were declared dead at the scene.
Vermaak says it is believed that the woman and her 3-year old child were crossing the road when a large vehicle ran them over.
He says a second vehicle also collided with them, and according to bystanders, the vehicle that initially collided with them continued to drive on.
No arrests have yet been made, and police are investigating.
