"Most wanted" suspect arrested after a decade on the run

A man on SAPS' 50 most wanted list has been rearrested on Thursday after nearly a decade on the run.

Police says the 34-year-old Madoda Mqwathi escaped from custody in 2010 and has been terrorizing the community of Ekurhuleni for more than ten years.

Mqwathi has been linked to more than 10 cases that include housebreaking, house robbery, theft and escaping from custody.

In another major breakthrough, police arrested a suspect after he was found with a firearm belonging to a murdered police officer.

Warrant Officer Makati from Kathlehong was murdered and robbed in March. Investigations are underway to establish if this suspect can be linked to the crime.
