As many as 47 people have died in a horror head-on collision between two long distance buses in Zimbabwe.

The buses were travelling between the capital Harare and the eastern border town of Mutare.

The accident happened on Tuesday.

National Police Spokesman Paul Nyathi said the 30 bodies had already been identified.

He said the government morgue has run out of space and has appealed for assistance from private mortuaries.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
