The Gqeberha woman who allegedly orchestrated a plan to have her 22-year-old son killed so that she could allegedly claim R2 million in life insurance made her first court appearance in New Brighton on Friday.
Shayieda Dollie, who resides in Gelvandale, faces charges of premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Luxolo Tyali said the 49-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday following her son’s murder on 28 October 2024 in Missionvale.
Tyali said Dollie claimed to have had difficulties with her son, whom she said struggled with drug addiction and considered a nuisance at home.
He said seeking advice, she allegedly consulted with various people who suggested a "permanent solution".
“The accused then allegedly orchestrated a plan with two individuals, known as "Shaun" and "Oompie," hiring hitmen from Johannesburg for an initial R80,000, which was later increased to R380,000,” Tyali said.
“The plan unfolded when Dollie told her son, Moegamat, he had a job interview.
"The alleged perpetrators then picked him up, ultimately leading to his murder.
Tyali said the motive was allegedly to claim R2 million in life insurance, "which would be used to pay the hitmen".
The state opposed bail, which was postponed to 15 November 2024 for profile verification purposes.
Moegamat's body was found with gunshot wounds in the head and neck.
