A four year-old girl who went missing this week, has been found walking alone between Bothaville and Leeudoringstad in the Free State, police said on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said Bothaville police and Welkom K9 Unit worked around the clock in search of Lerato Setjatja who was reported missing on Monday from the Eenkant farm in Bothaville.
Thakeng said the search was conducted throughout the night until eventually police from the Welkom K9 Unit, Warrant Officer Hollie Holtzhausen and Warrant Officer Willie Swanepoel and their dogs, came to assist.
“Constable Mike Ngwemla and Sergeant Molefi Ntlhokwe of Bothaville Community Service Centre (CSC) attended the scene and immediately initiated the search,” Thakeng said.
“The dogs specialising in search and rescue, namely Bennie and Kazaan belonging to Warrant Officer Willie Swanepoel from Bloemfontein, began with the search.”
Thakeng said the search continued until Tuesday morning when the girl child was found walking alone next to the tar road between Bothaville and Leeudoringstad.
“The girl looked tired, she was given water and chocolate. She was then safely taken back to her parents,” Thakeng said.
Welkom Cluster Commander Major General Apaphia Modise applauded the members for job well done in ensuring that the child was brought back to her parents without any harm.
