The 10-year-old girl who went missing in Durban last week has been found, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.
“McKayla Rutgers has been placed back in the custody of her grandmother,” Captain Thulani Zwane said. She was found unharmed in a flat in the Point area on Saturday.
She went missing on Wednesday after her mother Calene, who allegedly did not have custody of her, picked her up from the
Seaview Primary School during the morning.
On Saturday the mother was spotted by an old acquaintance who had learned through the media that police were looking for her and her 10-year-old daughter.
“We arrested Calene on Saturday along the beachfront.” She was expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on
Monday on charges relating to the Child Care Act, Zwane said. Rutgers' grandmother Leslie Raynard had custody of the girl. (Sapa)
