The government’s ministerial task team established by President Cyril Ramaphosa cannot investigate allegations of corruption linked to the procurement of Personal Protective Equipment.

In a statement on Sunday, the task team said that contrary to media reports, this remains the task of relevant law enforcement agencies.

The Task Team said its role is to compile and publish details of all Covid-19-related contracts awarded by all state entities.

The duration of the task team will be for the period required to complete its work.

Cabinet spokesperson, Phumla Williams, said that the Government is committed to eradicating all forms of corruption and that all those responsible for such criminal conduct, regardless of who they are, face the full might of the law.

The team of ministers is led by the Minister of Justice and Corrections, Ronald Lamola, and also includes the Finance Minister, Tito Mboweni, Public Service and Administration Minister, Senzo Mchunu, Cooperative Governance, and Traditional Affairs Ministers, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Minister in the Presidency, Jackson Mthembu.
