Striking workers at Lonmin platinum mine have rejected a R900 wage offer which would would take the wages of entry-level miners to R5 500 a month.
Workers at the Lonmin mine have been on an illegal strike for four weeks, demanding a salary of R12 500 rand a month.
Last month, the protest turned violent and police shot dead 34 protesters and injured 78.
A total of 45 people have been killed in incidents related to the strike.
Unions have expressed concern about job losses in the platinum sector with 4 800 jobs already lost due to illegal strikes.
Meanwhile, the strike over pay and union issues at Gold Fields' KDC West mine near Carletonville, continued on Friday.
Thousands of miners carrying sticks and pipes, walked in groups of about 50 onto the mine's property for another day of protests.
Around 85% of the gold mine's 15 000 downed tools on Sunday, over a range of issues which include a salary increase to R12 500 a month.
The company has responded to demands and is in turn waiting for the workers' reply.
