Military plane crashes in Mpumalanga


Three members of the SA National Defence Force were killed and two seriously injured when a Cessna Caravan C-208 from 41 Squadron, crashed in the vicinity of Lydenburg, Mpumalanga.

The SANDF says the caravan formed part of 41 Squadron that participated in an Operations Training Camp in the Lydenburg area on Tuesday.

Spokesperson, Simpiwe Dlamini, says there were five passengers on board of whom" three were fatally injured and two members transported to hospital with injuries."

"Their condition is serious but stable," he said.

Dlamini says a preliminary Investigation is underway which will be convened be followed by a Board of Enquiry to determine the cause of the accident.

The names of the deceased will be released as soon as next of kin are being informed.
