Five officers from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department(JMPD) have been arrested for alleged corruption.
Spokesperson Wayne Minnaar says the officers were arrested by the Hawks as they arrived for work on Monday.
It is alleged that they solicited a bribe of R11 000 from a man who was in the possession of an illegal firearm. They also failed to arrest him.
Minnaar says the alleged incident happened last month during an aroutine roadside check.
The officers aged between 26 and 38 were charged with corruption and defeating the ends of Justice as were granted bail of R2 000 each.
They have also been suspended pending an internal investigation.
