Memorial service for Pinetown crash victims

A memorial service for the 22 victims of last week's horror crash in Pinetown outside Durban, was held at the KwaNdengezi Sports Ground on Thursday.

They died when an 18-wheeler truck jumped a red traffic light and ploughed into a number of cars and taxi's.

Thembisa Nompula lost her younger sister, Ntombifuthi, in the crash.

Ntombifuthi had been studying Environmental Studies part-time through Unisa, while working in New Germany.

The 22-year-old was heading home from work when the tragedy happened.

"I didn't sleep the whole of Thursday up until the morning I had to go to the mortuary to actually check if she was dead because I could not find her at any of the hospitals. I have not even had the time to cry." said Nompula

"She had a bubbly personality, she was young, full of life and she also had a lot of potential. She was so passionate."
