CAPE TOWN, October 7 (ANA) – Western Cape human settlements MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela has been elected Democratic Alliance Western Cape leader, the party said on Saturday.
Madikizela, who has been Western Cape acting DA leader since Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille resigned from that position in January this year, was elected at the DA’s provincial congress in Goodwood, Cape Town on Saturday.
“Elections were conducted by secret ballot and voting was done using the single transferable voting system,” the DA said in a statement.
Social development MEC Albert Fritz was elected as Madikizela’s deputy, while local government, environmental affairs, and development planning MEC Anton Bredell was elected provincial chairman.
The three new deputy provincial chairpersons are Jean-Pierre “JP” Smith, Shaun August, and Antoinette Steyn. Provincial chairperson of finance is Andricus van der Westhuizen, and James Vos, Peter Helfrich, Conrad Poole, and Tertuis Simmers were elected additional members.
