Mantashe announces fuel price adjustments for September

File

South African motorists will, in part, fund the cost of wage adjustments for forecourt staff which adds five cents more to the price structure for a litre of fuel for September.

The Department of Minerals and Energy on Monday announced the fuel price adjustments for September, which come into effect on Wednesday.

Department spokesperson, Robert Maake, said both grades of petrol would increase by R1.71 cents a litre, diesel would go up by R2.76 and R2.84 per litre for the different grades, while illuminating paraffin will cost R2.78 cents more.

LP Gas also goes up by R2.26 per kilogram.

"The average Brent Crude oil price increased from 79.75 US Dollars (USD) to 84.78 USD during the period under review, because of tightening supply resulting from production cuts by Saudi Arabia," he said.

Maake added that the average international product prices of petrol, diesel, illuminating paraffin and LP Gas increased during the period under review, while the Rand depreciated against the US Dollar during the period under review.

Meanwhile, Maake said; "The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy approved a 5.0 c/l increase in the price structures of petrol to accommodate the wage increase for Forecourt employees in line with the Motor Industry Bargaining Council Agreement."

"This increase will be implemented from the 6 September 2023."
