A manhunt is underway for the suspects who were behind the murder of a Kwazulu Natal policeman who was found shot to death inside his police vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
His body was found at around 1.30 am, slumped inside a Toyota Quantum mini-bus in Pinetown outside Durban.
"The member was found with a gunshot wound to the head," said National Police spokesperson, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo.
He said the factual circumstances and the motive surrounding the policeman's murder is unknown at this stage.
Naidoo said his service pistol and R5 rifle were found "intact" inside the vehicle.
He said the national commissioner of police, General Khehla Sitole, had directed that a team of seasoned detectives be tasked to investigate the case.
The policeman's death comes just days after another policeman was gunned down in Phoenix in Durban on Sunday.
One of his attackers was also killed in the exchange.
