A man who pretended to be a hitman in order to extort money from a woman in KwaZulu Natal has been arrested.
The 46-year-old Morris Mdu Mkhungu was arrested by the Hawks in Umlazi and charged with extortion.
A spokesperson for the Hawks Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo says Mkhungu was arrested on Friday, following an intensive investigation by their members.
It is alleged that the accused pretended to be a hitman who was hired the kill the complainant. He allegedly phoned and messaged her several times, demanding money so that he would stop carrying out the hit.
Mhlongo says their preliminary investigation has revealed that Mkhungo has done this to several other victims.
He was remanded in custody and the case was postponed to the 22nd of January.
