A 48-year-old man arrested for being in possession of footage that might constitute child pornography has been granted R2000 bail by the Swellendam Magistrates’ Court.
The man was arrested on Tuesday on a farm in Overberg District outside Swellendam.
The arrest followed a collaborative investigation between the Provincial Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit based in Cape Town and with Home Land Security from the American Embassy.
According to police, the suspect frequented an American chatroom where participants share explicit sexual talks and footage of minors.
The suspect’s electronic devices have been confiscated for analysis.
The police said the man is out on bail under strict conditions including being prohibited from any contact with children/minors with exception of his children.
He is also not allowed to visit any pornography sites.
The suspect is expected back in court on the 13th of May
