A 25-year-old man is expected to make a second court appearance in Nelspruit after the bodies of five women were discovered buried on his property near Hazyview.
Julius Mndawe confessed to killing and raping all five woman before concealing their bodies.
The victims were between the ages of 15 and 24.
Police Spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hltathi says their investigation started as a 'missing person search' which led them to the suspect's house.
The missing woman was believed to have met Mndawe on social media before agreeing to go out with him on a date.
Hlathi says it is alleged that they had an argument which led to her murder.
The woman, who was reported missing on the 1st of June, was found buried next to a pit toilet on the yard.
Hlathi says when they arrived at the house the suspect escaped through the window but was brought to the police station, by his mother, on the 3rd of July.
Mndawe made a brief appearance in the Masoyi Periodical Court two days later.
In a dramatic twist of events, Mndawe subsequently confessed to killing and raping another four women whose bodies were also buried on his property.
His house has since been torched by members of the community.
Mndawe is being charged with five counts of murder, rape, violating a corpse and concealing bodies.
He will appear in court on Tuesday where all the cases are expected to be centralised before he is expected to apply for bail.
