NELSPRUIT, December 17 (ANA) – A 21-year-old man is expected to appear in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga on Monday on a charge of possession of rhino horn, Mpumalanga police said.
His appearance followed an incident that took place on Friday when police received a tip-off about a certain man residing within the Tonga area who was in possession of rhino horn. They swiftly went to the house and searched it, but to no avail, Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said.
“It then transpired that an unidentified man was seen running out of the house into the sugar cane field, carrying a plastic bag. The astute police went there and soon caught up with the suspect, carrying the said plastic bag. He was searched and it was established that in the plastic bag was a black rhino horn.”
The man was arrested and charged with possession of rhino horn, Hlathi said.
