A 20-year-old man is expected to appear in the Hermanus Magistrate's Court this week for allegedly attacking his mother.
Rapport newspaper reports that 46-year old Anthea van der Pluym's only son, Nicholas, allegedly attacked her in her home in Voëlklip in July.
She was hit over the head 14 times with a hammer, choked with an electric chord and then doused in petrol and set alight.
Van der Pluym's 74-year-old mother Dot Potgieter was also hit over the head with a hammer.
Nicholas, who is being detained in Caledon is facing two charges of attempted murder.
The case is expected to be transferred to the regional court on Wednesday.
According to the report, Nicholas returned back to South Africa from England a year ago, after he had immigrated with his father when he was 15, and moved in with Van der Pluym and Potgieter.
