A 28-year-old man will appear in the Somerset West Magistrate's Court on Monday, after he was arrested for being in possesion of abalone worth R3.6 million.
Western Cape police captain, Frederick van Wyk says the man was arrested on Friday afternoon, after police received a tip-off about a shipment of abalone.
He says the driver of the vehicle tried to escape police and accelerated, but the members managed to bring the vehicle to a halt on the N2.
Van Wyk says he will face charges of possession of abalone and reckless or negligent driving.
