The National Sea Rescue Institute says the 68-year-old man had reportedly been standing on rocks with a 43-year-old friend from Mitchell’s Plain.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says they were taking photographs on Sunday afternoon, when they were swept off the rocks and into the surf by a wave.
He says the 43-year-old managed to get out of the water, and has confirmed that his friend disappeared beneath the surf almost immediately and has not been seen since.
Lambinon says an extensive search for the man has not yielded any results, and police are investigating the incident.
