A man has been shot dead at the popular Umhlanga Pier near Durban.
Netcare 911 was dispatched to the Beach Whale Bone Pier at Umhlanga Rocks shortly before 11 am on Tuesday.
It is alleged that two men had an altercation when one produced a firearm and shot the 36-year-old victim once in the abdomen.
When medics arrived at the scene the victim had gone into cardiac arrest and full advanced life support resuscitation was initiated.
The patient's condition deteriorated and he was declared dead on the scene.
Both men were with their families on the pier when the incident happened.
Police say a 34-year-old suspect has been arrested.
The name of the deceased has not yet been released.
