Man sentenced to prison for ignoring protection order

A man from Carolina in Mpumalanga was sentenced to three years in prison for ignoring a protection order obtained by his former wife.

Spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi says the 30-year-old Linda Prince Mabuza dropped his kids off at their mother's house on October 2018, when he assaulted her. A protection order was already issued during this time.
He says the court found that Mabuza did not adhere to the specifications set out in the protection order and therefore did not respect the court.

Mabuza started serving his three-year sentence on Friday.

A protection order can be instituted against family members as well as partners and even children.

The process of applying for a protection order starts at the police station where the victim will be given forms to complete, however, if the victim has been assaulted, he/she can either opt to register a criminal case docket, apply for a protection order or even do both.
