Man sent for psychiatric evaluation claiming Zuma's life is in danger

A man has been sent for psychiatric evaluation after apparently claiming President Jacob Zuma's life is in danger.

According to the Hawks - Ernest Nkosi allegedly sent emails to various spokespeople - including those of the Minister of Police and  the Gauteng Provincial Government - as well as to BMW South Africa - saying there is a plot to assassinate the president.

In the e-mail - 26-year-old Nkosi is said to have claimed that a seat in the car that Zuma supposedly uses - has been laced with poison.

He also points fingers at high-ranking police officers, a minister and parliamentarians as being behind the plot.

The Hawks say the man appeared before the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Tuesday facing a number of charges including impersonating a State Security Agency official.

He will be back in court next month.
