A man has been rescued after he fell in among the dolosse in Durban Harbour on Friday evening, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said.
NSRI Durban deputy station commander Andre Fletcher said duty crew were activated at 6.40pm by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following reports of a man fallen in among the dolosse at the south arm breakwater in the harbour.
The sea rescue craft Megan II was launched and the SA Police Service, police search and rescue, eThekwini fire and rescue services, ER24 ambulance service, and Netcare 911 ambulance service also responded.
“On arrival on the scene an NSRI rescuer, police rescue technicians, and paramedics reached the patient who was trapped in among dolosse in a barely accessible area among the dolosse. Paramedics treated a 50-year-old local man for blunt trauma injuries and for suspected spinal injuries.
“Our sea rescue craft Megan II was used to transport a Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedic to the scene from the water side. The man was stabilised, secured into a Stokes basket stretcher, and extricated from the dolosse, and he has been transported to hospital by ER24 ambulance in a stable condition. It is unknown what led to the man falling in among the dolosse,” Fletcher said.
