Man nabbed with R2million worth of cocaine in soft drink containers

A 40-year-old man has been denied bail by the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court after he was bust in possession of cocaine worth an estimated street value of R2 million.

In a statement, the Directorate of Priority Crimes (the Hawks) said he was arrested on Wednesday at the O.R Tambo International Airport after a tip off about a passenger flying from Sao Paulo, Brazil to Maputo, Mozambique with a stopover in South Africa.

Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda said: “When the man landed at the O.R Tambo International Airport his luggage was searched and 7kg of cocaine was found concealed inside soft drink containers, wrapped with a foil”.

Forty-year-old Segundo Melendez Damacina was arrested and appeared in court on Thursday.
