A man in his sixties has been critically injured after being attacked by dogs at a residence in Longmarket Road in Pietermaritzburg.
ER24's Russel Meiring says paramedics were called to the residence by the police Friday morning after responding to an emergency call.
"Paramedics arrived at the house and found the patient seated next to some of the police officials," Meiring said.
"It is understood that the man had heard a loud barking and went to inspect. Outside he found two large dogs attacking some chickens. The dogs then apparently turned their attention on the man".
Meiring said on assessment paramedics found that the man had sustained a number of serious bite wounds to his head, chest and arms.
"He was provided with advanced life support interventions and then transported to Greys Hospital for further treatment.
On Monday this week, a 32 year-old woman was mauled to death by three large dogs in Braithwaite Road also in Pietermaritzburg.
