November 25 (ANA) – A 31-year-old man was killed after his forklift overturned and pinned him beneath it, on a farm in the Grootbrak area outside of George in the Western Cape.
ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said on Friday that when paramedics arrived on the scene “shortly before 18h00 last night” they found a man lying motionless next to his overturned forklift.
His colleagues were crowded around him.
“ER24 paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous fatal injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene,” said Meiring.
“Witnesses later told ER24 paramedics that the vehicle apparently suffered mechanical failure, causing the forklift to overturn and pin the driver beneath it. Workers on the farm noticed this and immediately rushed to the mans aid, lifting the forklift off him.”
Local authorities are investigating.
