Man in court for allegedly killing his girlfriend and her mother

A 35-year-old man is expected to appear in the Moutse Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, for allegedly killing a Groblesdal traffic officer and her mother.

On September 1, Clement Mashego appeared in court and his case was postponed for formal bail application and further investigations.

Limpopo police spokesperson Lt-Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said Mashego allegedly confronted Kotelp Tshepi, 26, and her 62-year-old mother Makitla Chileki on August 28, at around 10 pm at Malaeneng Section in the Ntwane village.

He allegedly shot the women and fled the scene. Tshepi was a traffic officer attached to the Groblesdal Traffic Station.

“The police were summoned, [and] reacted swiftly and on arrival at the scene, the two deceased were found lying inside their house with multiple gunshot wounds through their bodies,” Ngoepe said at the time.

“The police’s preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a boyfriend to the deceased traffic officer [Tshepi] and that he fled the scene with a Toyota Conquest green in colour which was later found abandoned near Siyabuswa filling station. The deceased traffic officer’s pistol , ammunition and the two magazines were found missing.”

Ngoepe said that the motive for the shooting was unknown but said that domestic violence could not be ruled out.
