Durban resident, Dawie Kriel, has been slapped with a fine of R6,000 or twelve months in jail for making inflammatory remarks on social media.
Kriel's sentence was however suspended for five years.
Magistrate Themba Sishi handed down the sentence in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday - saying the court took into account the fact that the 59-year-old is unemployed and made public apology.
But, Sishi found that Kriel's show of remorse was not genuine.
Kriel angered many people after referring to Hindus as devil-worshippers, among other things - over Diwali last year.
