A 53-year-old man from Durban is expected to appear in the local Magistrates Court on Tuesday following his arrest for the possession and distribution of child pornography.
Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala says the suspect came under their radar last month when an undercover agent based in the USA alerted police about a suspect that was distributing child pornography on social media.
She says the Provincial Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) and the Serial and Electronic Unit conducted their own investigation and a suspect was identified.
Captain Gwala says a search and seizure operation was conducted on Monday at the suspect’s home in Ridley Park in Malvern where a cellphone and three memory sticks were seized.
The cellphone was analyzed at the scene and images of child pornography were found.
