A man in his forties is in a critical condition after being stung more than a hundred times by a swarm of bees at a house in Kuils River in the Western Cape on Monday.
It was reported that the man, a garden service owner, was cutting down a bush when the beehive fell to the ground and the bees began attacking him.
"Advanced Life Support Paramedics Ronnie Havenga and Charlton Grewe arrived on scene and immediately assisted in getting the man to safety," said Netcare 911's Athlenda Mathe.
"Medical personnel, Intermediate Life Support Paramedic Cole Taljaard and Basic Life Support Paramedic, Monde Siyephu were both stung during the ordeal but it did not deter them to continue to save the man's life," she added.
The man was immediately treated and was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
