Man arrested in Cape Town with forged currency worth millions

SAPS

Western Cape police have arrested a 46-year-old foreign national who was caught with foreign currency worth R19 million.

Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie says on Friday, police noticed a suspicious vehicle in Goodwood.

He says upon searching the car members discovered a grey safe bag which was concealed in a black back as well as a blue bag full of American dollars.

Pojie says upon further investigation it was revealed that the currency was forged.

He says the suspect also failed to produce documentation to prove his legal status in the country.

He is expected to appear in the Goodwood Magistrates Court on Monday.
