Police have arrested a man who was seen on a viral video firing random shots in the air at the Doorpoort tollgate plaza near Pretoria in December.
Spokesperson, Captain Mavela Masondo, said he was arrested at his home in Pretoria North on Tuesday after a case was opened at Sinoville SAPS.
He said while conducting the search and investigation, several unlicensed firearms and more than 100 rounds of ammunition of different calibre were found.
Masondo said these additional charges would be added to the main charge of discharging a firearm in a municipal area.
He said the guns would be sent for ballistic test to determine if they were used in the commission of other crimes.
Acting Gauteng police commissioner, Major-General Tommy Mthombeni, said; “Those who disobey the laws of the country and ignore the call by government to surrender illegal and unwanted firearms during the amnesty period will be dealt with decisively.”
The man is due to appear in court on Thursday.
