A man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a Johannesburg metro police officer in Midrand.
Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar says the 41-year-old driver of a car pulled over at an intersection to ask metro police why they were fining a taxi driver on Thursday evening.
Minnaar says the man swore at the officer and punched him on his chest.
They wrestled on the ground and the female officer came to the rescue of her colleague.
The attacker was handcuffed and was taken to Midrand police station.
The officer he assaulted had neck and chest injuries and was taken to the Milpark hospital.
