A 36-year-old man has been arrested in Vryburg for allegedly stealing 46 cattle, North West police said on Sunday.
Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the man was arrested on Friday after he had sold the alleged stolen cattle for R230,000 at an auction in Vryburg.
He said the auction agent became suspicious after the sale and called a bank where the man was due to cash the cheque.
“It is alleged that after being told that the cheque had bounced the suspect went back to the auction agent where he found the police, who arrested him. Further investigation revealed that the cattle were stolen at Mareetsane village near Mahikeng.”
The man was expected to appear in the Vryburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of stock theft, Mokgwabone said.
