EFF leader Julius Malema says the Hawks presented five charges against him for allegedly discharging a firearm during the party’s 5th anniversary in East London last year.
Malema was speaking at the Hawks offices in Pretoria on Tuesday following a meeting with the investigative authority.
Malema believes there’s nothing to answer for concerning the matter, describing the behaviour by the Hawks as mischievous.
He says the Hawks asked them to respond to the charges.
Malema says the Hawks are welcome to charge him and then they can take the matter to court.
Afriforum laid charges against Malema in this matter over a year ago. In July 2019 they indicated to the media that they would approach the court with a mandamus application to force the NPA to make a decision in prosecuting the leader of the EFF for the alleged shooting incident in Mdantsane.
The CEO Kallie Kriel says their Private Prosecution Unit will gladly take up the matter if the NPA fails in their duty.
