Economic Freedom Fighters leader, Julius Malema and the party's former spokesperson, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi appeared in the Randburg Magistrates court in absentia on Tuesday. The two were told not to attend due to Covid-19.
They are accused of assaulting a senior police officer at the funeral of Winnie Madikizela Mandela in April 2018.
The alleged assault of the police Colonel was caught on CCTV.
Earlier this year, their legal representative asked that the matter be postponed as they needed more time to prepare.
In July 2019, Lobby group AfriForum said it would compel the National Prosecuting Authority(NPA) to reach a decision regarding the prosecution of Malema and Ndlozi.
It was only after this that the NPA decided to go ahead with the prosecution.
The case was postponed to the 31st of August for a trial date to be set.
