An Eastern Cape Magistrate has been killed in an attack on her family near Mbizana on Saturday night.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, said the 38-year-old woman’s husband suffered serious injuries in the incident which occurred on a road in a local village.

Her 13-year-old son was also wounded while a 10-year-old was unharmed.

Kinana said Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major-General Thandiswa Kupiso has established a task team of investigators to track and trace the culprits.

He said the Magistrate was traveling from a local village together with her husband and children near the Faith Mission Church in the Nomlacu Locality when a Ford Ranger bakkie appeared.

Kinana said the unidentified occupants started shooting at the family vehicle, leading to the death of the Magistrate who was said to be stationed at eMaxesibeni (Mount Ayliff).

He said the wounded husband drove his family to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

“The motive for the attack on the couple is not known at this stage. However, the police have registered a case of murder and three cases of attempted murder for investigation.”
