PORT ELIZABETH, March 25 (ANA) – The Kings had been excellent in pushing the Sharks to the limit in Durban last week, but they were not in the game against the visiting Lions in Algoa Bay on Saturday, going down 42-19 and by 7 tries to 3 against the 2016 Super Rugby finalists.
The home side started well enough, with Andisa Ntsila, scoring early in the game, but then came a succession of tries for the Lions as the Lions built supremacy in possession and territory.
Lions wing Michael Tambwe scored the first of two tries in the opening two minutes, and though rival wing Yaw Penxe pulled one back, Lions hooker Malcolm Marx scored off the back of a driving lineout.
The Lions were well on top and that allowed Elton Jantjies to canter through for a try that he converted for a 21-12 lead on 21 minutes.
When Tambwe scored his second, his side’s lead was unassailable.
The Kings refused to give up and a try by fullback, Malcolm Jaer just after half-time gave them hope.
The Lions scored their only try of the second half late in proceedings with replacement Harold Vorster dotting down.
