A young lioness that escaped from her enclosure last month has been found and euthanized.
The 18-month-old animal escaped in the early hours of the morning on the 23rd of September, allegedly due to loadshedding.
The lioness escaped her enclosure about 5km from Ventersburg towards Virginia.
A search team consisting of SAPS and Nature Conservation officials continued looking for the lioness and eventually spotted her on Saturday evening.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli says a local farmer reported a loss of 15 pigs but an investigation is underway to establish if they were killed by the same animal.
He says the lion was spotted next to the area where it escaped and all attempts were made for a successful capture but it had to be put down.
