Limpopo in bid to woo tourists


The Limpopo Tourism Agency has ignited an intensive plan aimed at wooing local and international travellers to the northern province which boasts tourist destinations and vast tracts of bush landscapes teeming with wildlife.

Speaking to African News Agency on Wednesday, chairperson of the Limpopo Tourism Agency board Andrew Dipela said moment across the Limpopo province was high but the strategy focuses on encouraging the travellers to venture into the numerous tourist destinations.

“We hope that through this engagement [two-day media colloquium hosted at the Euphoria Golf Estate in Modimolle] we are able to speak to the population and to showcase so that the beauty of Limpopo province can be seen,” said Dipela.

“Moving forward, we will be doing a lot of advertising and marketing of the establishments that we have here across the province. We think that we will be able to reach more and more people of this country and even internationally. We want them to come and visit the beautiful Limpopo.”

Among other highlights, Dipela said Limpopo boasts of three national parks, namely the Mapungubwe National Park, the Kruger National Park [northern section] and the Marakele National Park.

“Outside those three beauties, we have beautiful golf courses that are in the Waterberg belt, we also have birding routes and also the establishments that we have here in terms of hospitality, the service is great and people can be able to rest. We have the family and recreation cluster that has a lot more of the beauties of this province,” said Dipela.

The vibrant tourism sector is one of the major contributors Limpopo provincial economy’s kitty, with thousands fully employed in the hospitality and related industries.

Spokesperson for the Limpopo Tourism Agency Mike Tautsoala said establishments like the Euphoria Golf Estate continue to draw crowds to the province, owing to the wildlife and the cable car.

“We are actually very proud of what we have in the province. This province should also be known as the richest in terms of culture because of the many cultures that we have in the province. One thing which is also very important is the welcoming nature of the people of Limpopo,” said Tautsoala.

“We actually got a number of people coming past through Limpopo. You know that Limpopo is what we call the gateway to many countries of Africa. We are also very proud that a number of people coming to Limpopo actually find warmth because we are very welcoming.”

The media colloquium was attended by representatives of numerous regional and national media houses in South Africa.
