The Bloemfontein High Court has sentenced four men to two life terms each for killing a farmer and his wife in 2019.
The Hawks said Johannes Sekgoro, Thamsanqa Kat, Leepile Sidasi, and Daniel Seloane were jailed on Friday for the murders of 67-year-old Isak van den Berg and 62-year-old wife, Ina, on their farm, Blouwboswes.
The men raided their farmhouse between the 12th and 13th of July, 2019, severely assaulting and killing the couple, before stealing firearms, marathon medals, old coins and fleeing in the bakkie.
The four were arrested three days later while trying to cross into Lesotho.
Hawks spokesperson, Hangwani Mulaudzi, said Sekgoro, Sidasi and Seloane were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each for robbery with aggravating circumstances, while Kat was given 20 years on the same charge.
He said Seloane and Kat were also sentenced to 15 years each on two counts of the illegal possession of a firearm and one count of illegal possession. “All sentences are set to run concurrently,” he said.
