Finance Minister, Tito Mboweni, has announced increases in the levies on so-called sin-taxes.
Tabling his budget in Parliament on Wednesday, he said the excise duty on a can of beer goes up by 12 cents to R1.74, a 750 ml bottle of wine up by 22 cents to R3.15 and sparkling wine up by 84 cents to R10.16.
The levy on a box of 20 cigarettes will increase by R1.14 to R16.66
He also announced increases in the fuel levies by 29 cents a litre petrol and 30c a litre for diesel.
The highest increase will be for whiskey which will go up by R4.45 to R65.84.
There will be no increases in income tax rates and the VAT rate will remain unchanged however sin taxes will rise above-inflation rate between 7.4 % and 9%.
