Free State police arrested a 37-year-old Lesotho national for transporting a large quantity of alcohol in contravention of Disaster Management regulations.
Spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, said the man was arrested after he initially tried to avoid a roadblock at Clocolan on Wednesday afternoon but his car became stuck in the mud on an alternative road.
He said after the man asked for assistance police were notified and went to the scene.
"The police enquired about the liquor and the suspect failed to give satisfactory explanation, as a result the liquor and cash that was hidden in his travelling bag were confiscated," Makhele said.
He said the Lesotho national was arrested and is due to appear before the Clocolan magistrate court soon.
